Hui Yan is the Head of Entrepreneurship Programme at Sunway Innovation Labs at Sunway University (iLabs Foundry), known for its commitment to fostering an enterprising spirit among students and staff. Dr Ooi is an associate professor of the Department of Medical Sciences, School of Medical & Life Sciences, Sunway University. After graduating from Universiti Putra Malaysia and as a registered counselor with the Malaysia Board of Counsellors, Dr. Ooi uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in her counseling practice. Her works broadly focus on the relationship between human interactions and the planet, specifically the human-computer interactions that lead to social issues and psychological health concerns. She is also the master trainer licensed to train others in cyberbullying intervention programs, for which she has obtained various grants to support this initiative in Malaysia.

Title: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Depression
Abstract: This workshop is designed to enhance counsellors’ proficiency in using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) to address depression. CBT, a structured and evidence-based approach, is widely recognized for its effectiveness in treating depressive disorders by targeting negative thought patterns and behaviours. The workshop will cover core CBT principles, such as cognitive restructuring, behavioural activation, and psychoeducation, along with practical tools for identifying and modifying maladaptive beliefs that contribute to depression. By the end of the workshop, counsellors will be equipped with actionable strategies to support clients in breaking the cycle of negative thoughts and fostering positive behavioural changes.

Title: Bridging the Gap: An Integrated Approach to Rehabilitation Counselling for Persons with Disabilities

Rehabilitation counselling plays a crucial role in empowering individuals with disabilities to attain personal, social, and vocational independence. To provide inclusive counselling services, it is necessary for counsellors to acquire the knowledge and skills required to work with persons with disabilities. This workshop will focus on an integrated approach to rehabilitation counselling, emphasizing the intersection of medical, psychological, and vocational interventions to enhance rehabilitation outcomes. By utilizing case studies and evidence-based practices, the session will address both physical and social barriers, offering strategies to make counselling services more inclusive. Ultimately, it aims to foster a more equitable society for persons with disabilities.

Dr. Shamsuri’s Specialization in rehabilitation counselling and his research interest include but not limited to mental health and well-being of Persons with Disabilities (PWDS), career counselling and inclusive education for PWDs. he also actively involved with non-government organization of/for persons with disabilities in Malaysia and certified trainer for Disability Equality Training by Social Welfare Department (JKM) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Abstract:
This workshop aims to investigate the therapeutic potential of creative expression, a modality that encompasses a wide range of artistic activities. By engaging in creative endeavours, individuals can explore their emotions, develop self-awareness, and enhance their overall well-being. Upon attending international conferences such as Australian-Asean Emerging Leaders Program in Australia, Young South East Asian Leaders Initiative Fellowship in the United States and Young Leaders Union in Malaysia, I conducted the same activity with a wide range of participants ranging from different occupations, cultures and backgrounds, yet as a whole, still generated positive results.

The activity involves the participants drawing themselves from stages of themselves in tbe past, present and future before concluding with a quick discussion and reflection on whether they observed any growth, differences or stagnances. Title: Methods and techniques to use in family counseling: Skills development from systems theoretical approach and perspective.
Abstract:
This workshop is designed for counseling practitioners to use systems theoretical approach as a foundation to their counseling practices. Live demonstration with active audience participation through spontaneous role play will be the basis of this workshop in addressing systems theoretical concepts such as joining, boundary making (alignments, triangulation, coalitions, etc.,), redundancy principle, circularity, subsystems, complementarity and others. Heavily relying on structural and strategic family counseling approaches (but not inclusive) and focusing on skills acquisition and enhancement, among the techniques addressed will include but not limited to reframing, miracle questions, not knowing, unbalancing, tracking, enactment, paradoxical interventions, circular questioning, etc.

The Brad Chilcote Endowed Professor of Counseling, Department of Counseling, East Texas A&M University (formerly named Texas A&M University – Commerce) in Commerce, Texas
He joined the counselor education professoriate upon graduating from Kent State University in Ohio. Prior to doctoral study, he was a counseling clinician in various public settings in rural mid-west of the United States serving diverse populations since 1986. The common issues of counseling include treating survivors and perpetrators of abuse; delinquencies, couple and family counseling, and others. He has been a professor in the United States since 1993 serving various public regional institutions of higher education in Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas in various administrative and academic roles ranging from being a Dean of a College, Department Head/Chair, Program Coordinator, and currently serving as a full-time professor in clinical mental health and counselor education and supervision programs. He is an active member of American Counseling Association (ACA), International Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and many other professional organizations.
Dr. Zaidy Mohd Zain sits on numerous the editorial boards of peer-review academic journals throughout his long academic career including the Family Journal: Counseling and Therapy for Couples and Families, published by IAMFC since 1994. His long successful engagement in the counseling profession and higher education teaching has produced a trail of numerous publications and presentations at various levels: internationally, nationally and locally. He also served as external examiner to various universities worldwide and active participant in accreditation process such as Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and CACREP. His long-standing interests in rural counseling services, marriage and family counseling and teaching pedagogy in counselor training, among others, led to the award of an endowment for rural mental health counseling in 2022 thus, making him an endowed professor of counseling.
